Our partner Holy Spirit Hospital suffered a disastrous fire at the end of last year. No-one was hurt, but as well as serious damage to buildings, the fire destroyed all of its drugs. As soon as we heard about it we sought help from other UK charities on our partners behalf. We are delighted that InterCare (http://intercare.org.uk/), who specialise in providing medical aid to countries in Africa, have responded magnificently. On the 19th January they despatched a shipment of 10 boxes (135kg) of valuable medical aid including some really expensive, life-saving antibiotics. The total value of the shipment is more than £6,000. Makeni Trust Fund will be contributing to the shipping costs of around £1,000.
InterCare have also said that they have put the Hospital on a waiting list for further consideration. There are no guarantees that they will definitely send future medical aid but they will try and help where possible.
