Hannah Lewis and Shaza Dous were students at Sheffield University. In 2018 they became the fourth set of Masters students to take up their Masters project placements at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) in Sierra Leone. Hannah was studying for an MSc in Environmental Change and International Development, and Shaza for an MA in Intercultural Communications and International Development. Once again the trustees of the Makeni Trust Fund were pleased to represent UNIMAK in working with Sheffield University’s Margi Bryant to facilitate the arranging of these placements. And, once again the placements were considered a great success by all parties, UNIMAK, Sheffield University, and the students themselves.
Hannah found the placement so rewarding that after successfully completing her studies in Sheffield she returned to Makeni to take up a teaching post at the University.
Previous successful placement students from Sheffield are:
Jessica Jones and Jonathan Griffiths – 2014
Alice Johnson and Yoon Young Cho – 2016
Helena Newton and Eri Nishiyama – 2017
