Since 2009 we have been working closely with one of the best schools in Makeni, St Joseph’s School for the Hearing Impaired.

St Joseph’s is a very special school, started in 1979, destroyed in the civil war of the 90s, & lovingly re-established in 2003. Care and education is provided for 251 hearing impaired students aged 3 to 18, who are often marginalized or rejected. The school provides academic education and skills training that allow students to become active members of the working world, as well as an abundance of love, care and support.

Finances are difficult. Most students are from very poor backgrounds. However, poverty is never a barrier to an education here. Donations enable the school to assess hearing loss, provide hearing aids, train staff and upgrade facilities. All money raised goes towards the support of the students. The school is externally audited annually. Donors’ money is well accounted for.

St Joseph’s gratefully welcomes any donation, no matter how small.
