InterCare UK helps Holy Spirit Hospital

Our partner Holy Spirit Hospital suffered a disastrous fire at the end of last year. No-one was hurt, but as well as serious damage to buildings, the fire destroyed all of its drugs. We support the work of Dr Veronica Sawicki who has set up a clinic at Holy Spirit Hospital for people with diabetes. Makeni Trust Fund helps by funding the purchase of blood glucose strips. Veronica recently sent us this message:

“I just wanted to post a couple of photos of some of our patients who are alive in part, as a result of your amazing support. Big smiles all round !”

We hadn’t been in Makeni long before we realised that everyone had a problem finding fresh, clean drinking water. Jonathan worked at Holy Spirit Hospital for a month and when the water ran out in the dry season they had to buy river water that the fire engine delivered to fill their water tanks. A very common sight in Makeni in 2009 was to see a young child [of school age] leading a blind relative around the town begging for money.
